First USA Bank de-enrolled card holders from the
Free Rewards Program without notice.  We were even assured
that our membership would continue during a phone conversation
pertaining to last year's exercise of "reward" points.
Instead, they automatically de-enrolled us (and who knows
how many others).  We noticed we had been silently dropped
when our may statement didn't show the customary reward point totals.
When we called, they smugly said that we had missed out on
most of the year but that they would re-enroll us starting
next month (June).  And the customer service operator refused
to let us speak with his supervisor.
        This is a cheap "bait and switch" tactic.  They reel
in customers with the Free Rewards Program lure and then quietly dump
everyone at each year end.  They then hope that most take a
long time to notice.  This is fraud.  Surely, there are
laws against this kind of rip off.  Whether there are laws
or not ... DateLine should expose these sleazy schemes.
        First USA tries all kinds of rip offs.

I HAVE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE WITH FIRST USA, I WAS LURED IN WITH THE
5.9% AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHEN MY RATE JUMPED TO OVER 20% BUT WHEN I
NOTICED I CALLED AND TOLD THEM TO CANCEL MY CARD AS I WAS GOING TO
SWITCH TO A CARD OFFERING A LOWER RATE.  THEY MATCHED THE RATE SO RATHER
THAN SWITCHING I AGREED TO STAY WITH THEM.  HOWEVER, THAT WAS THREE
MONTHS AGO, AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T LOWERED THE RATE.  I HAVE MADE
SEVERAL CALLS AND HAVE BEEN ASSURED THAT I WILL BE CREDITED THE EXTRA
INTEREST THAT WAS CHARGED, THEY HAVE BEEN VERY APOLOGETIC AND ASSURE ME
IT WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF ON THE NEXT STATEMENT, BUT IT NEVER IS.  I FEEL
I AM BEING STRUNG ALONG.

Here is our story about First USA and their cheating company.

My wife canceled her account on Feb 4, 1998. (paid in full, no account balance)

We get a statement from them in April saying we owe $59.00 to some company called TRAILSIDE.  I called to get an
explanation of why, who and how somebody charged on a closed account and they could not tell me how that had
happened. All the customer service rep said was OH MY GOD! they charged on a closed account!  I then talked to
another rep who then left me on the voicemail line of a supervisor.  I left all the information but was never called back.

I called the company who charged me and I told them that they had no authorization to charge my wifes account.
They told me that First USA had given my name to them and that someone from Trailside had talked to my wife. They
had an incorrect date of birth as a confirmation. (very close to my wives). I told them the date of birth was wrong and
they were eager to credit my CLOSED account the $59.00.

I have just received a statement from First USA that has the same $59.00 bill with a $20.00 late fee. I went through the
roof and called them on the phone. All they did was talk BS and tell me they would cancel the late fee. I told them I
was recording the conversation and the supervisor I was talking to hung up on me! (some crap about me violating her
rights???)  By the way there was also a 4.73 credit on the account. I asked them what the credit was for and they told
me a payment in a class action lawsuit!   I had asked what lawsuit and they said they couldn’t tell me!  Does
anybody know what lawsuit they were talking about?

After reading all 75 letters on your site I can only conclude that this was no mistake! I believe that Trailside and First
USA were in this together in an attempt to defraud my wife.  How many others paid the bill unknowingly???  I am
almost certain that my account could not have been charged to from any retail account because it was closed.  The
only way I can see my account getting charged is by being back ended there at First USA!   They don’t care
how a charge gets on your bill, only that it’s there and they can charge a late fee!  This company really
SUCKS.

I can only say that if I were to meet the president of First USA, Randy Christofferson in person, I would, with out a
doubt, kick the living shit out of him!  He knows what he is doing and he knows how to do it!  The government will
not do anything about people like him, they know how to hide behind their lawyers.  No wonder Jefferson said we
should have a revolution every ten years!  This scumbag should have done to him what was done to Mussolini.

hello... i have been a First USA gold visa customer for 2 years.  I
recently stumbled onto your website regarding the SCAMS that First USA
has been running onto it's customers.  Unfortunately, I also am a victim
of raised APR without notice ( from 5.9% to 11.99% to a whopping 21.54%
within 12 months!! ) .  I also have been scammed by one of the
Telemarketers that First USA released my info to.  The Telemarketer
called my house around 6:00am and asked me to order magazines,  I
promptly refused.
But on the following statement, an amount of $130 was taken out of my
account without my consent.  I new right away that it was a mistake,
assuming that mistakes do happen. But upon reading the horror stories
that were posted on your website,  it is now clear to me that the
transaction was made intentionally by First USA. I am outraged and
furious that many others have been victimized by this Corrupt,
Greed-Driven company.  I feel that all us Current and Former customers
should voice out these claims in unity and forewarn others from making
this horrible mistake.  The saddest part of all... is that I still am a
customer of First USA, trying pay off my HUGE balance that has
accumalated.

Well, oddly enough have never been "ripped off" by firstusa, in fact I have
had the same 11.99% interest rate for the past 4 years!!!! However after
reading some of your stories I realized they tried not posting my payments a
couple of times, but when I called them the situation was always amended
within a couple of days, for one reason I think its harder for them to rip
me off that way because I have an allotment/ electronic funds transfer go
directly from my accounting service in Kansas city to there bank exactly on
the first of the month (IM in the marine corps), so because this is an
electronics transfer they cant B.S. me about mail delays of posting of
checks, a couple of times they lost a payment but it was always annotated on
my statement so when I called them on it  was fixed within @ 2-3 days, to
all those 22% accounts out there all I can say is go to a credit union, NOT
BANK, and either ask for a an to pay it of or ask to apply for their card
and tell them the reason why, remember I said CREDIT UNION, NOT BANK, they
have lower interest rates and are governed by different rules which makes
them generally more user friendly.
