We got a card from Capital One for our son and found they post the bills in such a way as to almost guarantee your offspring will exceed the limit. (Our first bill contained only $42.17 in purchases, despite the fact that it was mailed after another $200+ in charges had been made. In short, it took almost two months to bill us for the rest of the purchases)
Switching from Capital One
Then, Capital One dinged us for a $25 over the limit fee. No warning was given to our son that he was about to go over the limit. We plan to cancel the card after they receive our last payment.
In the meantime, we've obtained a card from our credit union which will reject a purchase that will bring it more than $25 over the limit, and will not charge a fine for the $25 over the limit.
